Gani Uzbekov

With over fifteen years of experience in finance and international development, Gani Uzbekov serves as a distinctive example of the new generation of regional leaders that has flourished during the first decades of Kazakhstan’s independence.

After winning two consecutive scholarships and graduating from the London School of Economics in 2000 and Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government in 2003, Mr. Uzbekov was appointed Deputy Minister of Finance of Kazakhstan. In 2006 – 2008 Gani Uzbekov served as Deputy Chairman of the Agency for Regulation and Supervision of the Financial Market and Financial Organizations (FSA). Prior to joining the private sector, Gani Uzbekov served as Deputy Chairman of Kazyna.

During his term as the Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr. Uzbekov served as Kazakhstan's Alternate Governor on the Board of Governors of the World Bank, Asian Development Bank and Islamic Development Bank. He was selected for the World Bank’s Young Professionals Program (2003) and the World Economic Forum’s Global Leadership Program (2005).

Prior to assuming his role as CEO of Capital Bank Kazakhstan, Mr. Uzbekov served as Deputy CEO of KazInvestBank and HSBC Bank Kazakhstan. There, among other responsibilities, he carried out corporate business development, risk assessment, and global networking functions. Under Mr. Uzbekov’s management, Capital Bank significantly increased the Bank’s assets and expanded its profile on the Kazakhstani market.

Gani Uzbekov is founder and CEO of S1LK, a company providing payment and processing gateway services in Kazakhstan and the CIS region.
