We are pleased to announce that the registration is now open for the international Understanding Risk Central Asia forum, 26-28 February 2020 in Almaty, Kazakhstan!
In the frame of the European Union-funded “Strengthening Financial Resilience and Accelerating Risk Reduction in Central Asia” Program, the World Bank and the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) in partnership with the Center for Emergency Situations and Disaster Risk Reduction (CESDRR) and United Nations office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) are organizing the Understanding Risk (UR) Central Asia Forum, which is a regional event under the auspices of the global Understanding Risk (UR) community which includes more than 9,000 experts and practitioners active in the creation, communication, and use of disaster risk information.
Earthquakes, floods, and other natural disasters that are frequent to the Region and a growing recognition of how climate change, population, and aging infrastructure will exacerbate risk, have indicated a need to accelerate action towards the identification and management of disaster and climate risks. The UR CentralAsia forum will provide a platform for the public and private sector, local, national and regional institutions, non-governmental organizations, academia, development partners and civil society to build partnerships and to share knowledge and best practices. The UR Central Asia forum aims at: i) raising awareness of the scale of disaster risks in Central Asia; ii) sharing knowledge and promoting innovative approaches in managing disaster risks; and iii) fostering greater regional collaboration.
