AmCham Meets with First Deputy Foreign Minister Ashikbayev

First Deputy Foreign Minister Yerzhan Ashikbayev met with AmCham President Saule Zhakayeva and Executive Director Jeff Erlich on November 28 to discuss the U.S.–Kazakhstan economic partnership.

Both sides heralded the C5+1 meeting in Washington earlier that month, which led to billions of dollars in new investments, in minerals, logistics, information technology and agriculture.

AmCham informed  Mr. Ashikbayev of its plans to advocate with the U.S. Congress for the repeal of the Jackson-Vanik Amendment, a Cold-War-era law that limits trade; and promoting U.S. financing through vehicles including the EXIM and the Development Finance Corporation.

The parties discussed ways to enhance the investment and business environment in Kazakhstan and emphasized the importance of ensuring that the agreements announced in Washington are fully implemented and pave the way for even greater investment.

Mr. Ashikbayev expressed appreciation for AmCham’s long-standing partnership and reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to working closely with the U.S. business community to strengthen economic ties and unlock new opportunities for mutual growth.
