Last week, AmCham Kazakhstan Executive Director Jeff Erlich moderated the panel “๐๐ณ๐ฃ๐ช๐ต๐ณ๐ข๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ ๐ง๐ณ๐ฐ๐ฎ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ฏ๐ด๐ช๐ฅ๐ฆ: ๐๐ฉ๐ข๐ต ๐๐ฏ-๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ด๐ฆ ๐๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฏ๐ด๐ฆ๐ญ ๐๐ฆ๐ข๐ญ๐ญ๐บ ๐๐ข๐ฏ๐ต” as part of ๐๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ฎ ๐๐ฟ๐ฏ๐ถ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ช๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ธ ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฒ.
The discussion brought together:
๐น Artem Timoshenko, Unicase Central Asia
๐นElyar Aliyev, bp
๐น Samir Abdullayev, Alstom
๐นZmarak Khan, Commercial Law Development Program
๐น Ravil Kassilgov, KP Disputes
The conversation explored how in-house and external counsel often approach dispute resolution from different perspectives, and why understanding those differences leads to better outcomes.
External counsel highlighted the importance of clear communication, early access to relevant information, realistic expectations, and legal strategies that align with the clientโs priorities. In-house counsel emphasized that legal advice must also reflect commercial realities, balancing dispute resolution with the companyโs broader business objectives, risk management, and long-term relationships.
Thank you to our partners at the AIFC Court and International Arbitration Centre for organizing another excellent Eurasia Arbitration Week and creating a valuable platform for legal professionals from across the region to exchange experience and best practices.
