Digitalization Committee: Data Localization Working Group Meeting on May 14

AmCham Kazakhstan’s Digitalization Committee discussed the draft decree of the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence, which proposes changes to Kazakhstan’s data localization and cloud usage regulations.

Members reviewed proposed provisions allowing the use of private and public cloud services for government data under conditions to be defined later, the removal of mandatory personal data localization requirements, and regulatory exemptions for companies participating in the Data Center Valley project. Participants noted concerns regarding regulatory ambiguity, overlapping legal provisions, and unequal treatment of local and foreign companies.

The Committee agreed on continued private sector involvement in regulatory consultations.
