Supporting Kazakhstan’s Mining Industry: Borusan Cat in Karaganda

There is no substitute for seeing the work on the ground. This summer, we had the opportunity to visit the Borusan Cat Казахстан Component Rebuild Center in Karaganda and see firsthand the scale and technical expertise behind one of AmCham Kazakhstan’s oldest and most trusted members.
With more than 400 employees in Karaganda, Borusan Cat is an important employer in the region and a crucial partner to Kazakhstan’s mining industry. The facility repairs and rebuilds Caterpillar Inc. machinery and components, extending the life of equipment that keeps some of Kazakhstan’s largest industrial operations moving. Seeing the size of the machinery, the sophistication of the workshops and the expertise of the team gave us a much better appreciation of what that means in practice.
What was particularly impressive was the innovation happening locally. Solutions developed by the team in Kazakhstan to solve practical challenges have repeatedly gained recognition within the global Cat network, with some subsequently adapted and used by Cat partners in other markets. It is a great example of Kazakhstan not only benefiting from international expertise but contributing expertise and innovation back to a global network.
Borusan Cat has been operating in Kazakhstan since 1999, and its continued investment in local people, technical capabilities and world-class service demonstrates the long-term commitment international companies can bring to Kazakhstan. Thank you to Batyrzhan Serik, Serik Nurakhmetov and the entire Borusan Cat team for sharing your expertise and for the wonderful hospitality. It was a fascinating visit and a privilege to see your work up close.
